As many of you know, I’m a proud graduate of the University of Dayton, if not one of the best students they’ve ever had. (Full disclosure: I graduated with a 2.2, but I’m pretty sure I was the only young person there simultaneously running a $400K business out of my dorm room, so, you know, pick your priorities.)
In any event, the UD Flyers men’s basketball team has always been competitive if not really good, and their following is among the most devoted in the country. I myself am a longtime fan, through good seasons and bad, but this year the team is something else. At the time of my writing this, they are ranked seventh in the country, and their lead star, Obi Toppin, is being eyed by the NBA as a top draft pick. For a relatively small, Catholic school in Dayton, Ohio, this is amazing, invigorating stuff.
