Our landscaping companies rely on trucks and equipment to get our work done, and in many cases it helps us to get our work done safely, efficiently, and without throwing out our backs 😅
When we were in Des Moines recently for one of our ACE Peer Group Meetings and a bit of a dress rehearsal for GROW! I heard RJ Lawn & Landscape owner Ryan McCarthy say something that I think is critical for companies.
"If I had to return to working in the field tomorrow, would I want to use this equipment? Would I be proud to drive this truck or report to this facility?"
-Ryan McCarthy, Owner, RJ Lawn & Landscape
That's the mentality that drives his decision-making on fleet purchases, equipment changes, and the design of their incredible facility.
There were a few things specifically Ryan highlighted that they've done or are doing at RJ that align with this mindset:
1. They're retrofitting trucks with liftgates to make work safer and less exhausting for crews.
2. They have some crews using battery-powered equipment. They've moved to this because it's lighter weight, more reliable, and quieter.
3. They built their offices with plenty of windows to let natural light in, and purposefully built shallow garages to minimize the number of trucks that would be blocked in when parked indoors.
I've learned so much from the way that Ryan and Annette McCarthy run their business in the time I've worked with them as a coach and through our ACE Peer Group program. I can't understate how incredible it is that they're willing to open up their facility and let so many landscape pros learn from the way they're set up and operate. If you're looking to build or make improvements to your facility, fleet, or how you structure your team efficiently you won't want to miss GROW! 2024.
