I can't wait for our attendees to join us at Sebert Landscape for our 2024 Field Trip with NALP. Last week, their team did a dress rehearsal of sorts for our visit to their facility, presenting all of their sessions to me so we could fine-tune timing and ensure our attendees will get the maximum value and actionable takeaways from every single session.
One of the many sessions I got a preview of was on landscape construction and enhancements, which is a huge revenue driver for Sebert. Most of the business they do is in landscape maintenance, and they set goals for each branch to have enhancements to those maintenance properties. Their goal is 67% of maintenance dollars in enhancements annually - to make the math simple that would mean that a branch doing $1M in revenue in maintenance should be doing $670,000 in enhancements on top of that.
I don't want to steal all of Gary's thunder, but he also shared what their account managers do to find all of those enhancements. They:
1. Look for seasonal add-ons. These are typically low-hanging fruit and easy to sell to a client, and often improve both the way a property looks and the health of the landscaping. Things like aeration or grub control fall into this category.
2. Do property walk throughs. There's no way to get around it, nothing replaces getting eyes on a property when it comes to finding enhancement work. Looking for projects that can make the property safer, more beautiful, or more functional for the client is a surefire way to find more work to do.
As we shared in a Great Idea earlier this year, the Sebert team views enhancement proposals as a way to show their clients that they're engaged and care about their property, too. It's as much a strategy for retaining clients as it is for generating additional revenue.
I can't wait for our attendees to see Sebert's facility and learn from their team when we're in Chicago together on September 17-18 for our Field Trip in partnership with NALP. I've worked closely with the Sebert and NALP teams as we've prepared for this event, and I think those who join us are in for quite a treat. Don't miss out on the Night Out event: we'll be visiting the incredible Morten Arboretum and will have full access to their grounds to wander for inspiration. Will I see you there?
