Some of the most common questions we get asked at The Grow Group are about organization and trucks and equipment. This week, we're talking both.
In my opinion, trucks are a means to an end. They need to be efficient, useful for your team, and kept clean and branded to help with your company's reputation. We equip our maintenance trucks so that our crews can be efficient while they're out working, and to reduce downtime or trips back to the office.
Our maintenance crews may be set up a little differently from your company; these crews are responsible for detail work like deadheading, edging, spraying and pulling weeds, pruning, and removing debris depending on the time of year. They will mow small areas, but we have three other crews that exclusively mow so that we can keep team members focused on what they're best at.
The tools and equipment these crews need daily stay on the trucks to reduce time loading and unloading each day and so our crews are always prepared. On every maintenance truck, you'll find:
Backpack blowers
A push lawnmower
String trimmers
A backpack sprayer
Hedge trimmers
Hedge trimmers on a stick
Shovels, rakes, hand pruners and a variety of other tools
PPE and pylons
There are racks to keep all of this organized so that team members can quickly find what they're looking for. Back at the shop, and still organized neatly in a corner, we have spares of this equipment as well as other equipment that we need but use less frequently. If a crew needs something special, their group leader will let them know and the team can grab it in the morning.
Keep an eye on our social media feeds - we'll be sharing more on how we stay organized in the coming weeks. If you'd like to see all of this yourself, join us on one of our Grunder Landscaping Field Trips later this year. You'll get a tour of our shop, office, and grounds to see for yourself how we keep everything optimally organized for efficiency. You'll also learn directly from the talented team I work with every day, to hear how we manage marketing, sales, accounting, HR, production, and more. We have space available at our September and October field trips; I hope to see you there!
