Be Landscape Professionals
A little over a week ago, we were at R.P. Marzilli for our annual Field Trip in partnership with NALP. It was a great, fast-paced two days together learning from everything that R.P. Marzilli does well.
We heard first-hand from Bob and Christine Marzilli how the business began (with a messy office in Bob's mom's basement), the struggles they faced in the early days (Christine's corporate salary was their only income for years while Bob worked to start the business), and how their focus on doing right by their clients and their team has guided every decision since.
I had one takeaway above all else; watch the video below to see what it was:
I love being able to shine a spotlight on companies that are doing incredible work through the events we do at The Grow Group. While I may never work on jobs as large as the ones Marzilli installs, I can take a page out of their book on their team's dedication to quality and professionalism.
It's why you'll often hear me refer to those in our industry as landscape professionals. Because we are just that: professionals. We're experts in our craft, experienced in bringing beautiful landscapes to life for our clients. What we do shouldn't be discounted to just mowing lawns or just planting a few flowers. It's much more than that, and the first step to getting others to see that is seeing it ourselves.
So my challenge to you is this: do you treat your team as the professionals they are? Do you provide them with a safe, clean, and respectful place to work? Do you invest in their training and development? Do you help them to look the part when they're out on job sites? Do you explain to your clients the value you bring to the table?
If not, what can you do to take a step towards elevating the industry within your own company this week?
Happy Fourth of July, we'll talk to you next weekend!
