Four Tasks to Stay Busy This December — The Grow Group

Written by Emily Lindley | Dec 7, 2020 5:00:00 AM

This time of year, we are often flooded with questions from owners and leaders asking what they should be focused on right now. While there are many things you could be doing, we recommend these four easy tasks to get your business ahead this time of year:

1. Be Present
If you do nothing, nothing will happen, so now is the time to take action. On the sales side, we recommend calling on clients, visiting them when possible, scheduling zoom happy hours and writing hand written notes. On the production side, visit crews, watch morning rollouts, and support managers and leaders any way you can. A lot of good can be done to your bottom line with a strong, profitable December!

2. Show Your Appreciation
I’m amazed at what 100 bucks worth of pizzas can do for morale. And I’m equally amazed at what a little 10-minute talk with a team can do for them and for you. Just tell them you appreciate them and show it by looking them in the eye and asking them how they are doing. The latter is affordable no matter what your budget is.

3. Learn and Grow Your People
December is typically a slow month for landscape pros, which makes it one of the best times to conduct trainings or plan for future trainings. Next week we have a virtual event, our Profit Pros Virtual Workshop, which will walk attendees through the steps that teams need to take before, during, and after a job to ensure its success with the least amount of headaches. This event is great for production and operations managers, and would be a great way to repurpose a rainy day for learning.

4. Advocate for Programs that Help Us All
The H-2B program, which many of us rely on for labor in our busy season, is once again in danger for 2021. Quickly write to your representatives this week to let them know that we need cap relief preserved in the spending package they’re working on now. NALP created this form to send in your thoughts quickly.

Stay busy landscape pros, Spring will be here before we know it!
